Are Tune Campers winter-capable?

Absolutely! Much of the inspiration from TUNE was drawn from the desire to beat the traffic and spend some time in places less known. All of the Tune Outdoor founders are avid skiers and snowsport enthusiasts. Because of this, serious design effort went into making sure that the Tune M1 can withstand a storm. The roof is capable of supporting a staggering snow load when raised - we tested it this winter - although we mandate clearing snow completely from your roof prior to lowering and periodically to ensure safety. We will soon offer both an insulation canopy liner and a heater kit that will make your winter camping experiences more luxurious. Even without a heater or additional insulation, a good winter sleeping bag will support a successful winter adventure.

Can I take a Tune Camper on and off?

Our camper is designed to be light and versatile enough to be integrated into your daily life and allow you to still use your truck as a truck. In the case that you do want to take it off, we will offer accessory mounts for your Tune M1 that integrate with standard camper jacks. More coming here as we move into installations.

Product

Do Tune Campers impact a pickup's gas mileage?

We believe that the Tune M1 will take 2-4 mpg off your average gas mileage. In long-range testing of about 10,000 miles on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, we lost an average 2 mpg.

Warranty/Repair

How long is the warranty and what is covered?

Tune comes with a 3-year warranty for both product and workmanship. Because the Tune is designed from the ground up to be easy to use, assemble and repair, if you have a damaged Tune, give us a call. In most cases, we'll be able to send you a replacement part in short order.

Product

How long will a Tune Camper last?

Our camper is built to potentially outlast your truck. The 6063A-T5 aluminum frame is held together by injected composite corner brackets used in boat propellers among other applications. These brackets are stronger than aluminum in our testing, and no welds or rivets can fail. Even if there is part failure based on user error ("Oops, we hit that piece of granite"), it's easy and inexpensive to replace Tune M1 components given our design philosophy and modularity.

Product

How much does a Tune Camper weigh?

The weight of a Tune M1 starts around 400 pounds for midsize trucks and increases depending on accessories that you add. Some of these accessories are glass windows, roof fan vents, slider windows, molle panels, heater kits, propane tank mounts, battery systems and more.

Product

How much interior space is there in a Tune Camper?

It depends on the size of the truck bed. On average, though, we believe you will see 20-30% more cubic space to sense and use based on the winged side design and the high headspace. You would have to buy a heavy and expensive slide-in camper to get comparable interior space, assuming it was not filled with old-school RV fabricated componentry. Not much space left for the dogs in that case.

Purchase

How much is the installation fee for a Tune M1?

It's always free!

Product

Is the Tune M1 Camper secure?

There are capable locks on all awning entry points. Like with tempered, smoked glass in a car, we recommend never leaving valuables in clear sight if there are windows. In general, our Tune M1 is equally secure to your vehicle, although it does not have an alarm at purchase.

Product

Is the Tune M1 custom built to my Truck?

Yes, every Tune M1 is measured to the bed of your vehicle and customized to ensure a sleek and secure fit. It may be the case that some of our models will be compatible with multiple truck models but that is merely a coincidence of truck bed parallels across brands.

Add-Ons

Should I get the cab access slider window?

‍The slider allows both visibility through the rear view and access to gear within reach in the cab.

Add-Ons

Should I upgrade to tempered, smoked glass windows?

Tune comes standard with aluminum side panels. Sides and rear open with gas struts providing all-direction gear access. Tempered, smoked glass option allows greater visibility and a very modern aesthetic.

Add-Ons

What do I need power for?

‍We offer stock LED lighting ringing the roof extrusion, but power is required to use this feature or other electric adds like fans, heaters, pumps or the like. We have chosen Goal Zero for our installs because of their superior configuration and reliability.

Add-Ons

What is entailed in the wiring to a Goal Zero?

In our custom wiring, we will run extra wire as needed from the fan and light, hide the wires, add T-Slot Covers and provide adaptors for GZ hook-in.

Purchase

What is the lead time to purchase a Tune M1?

Current lead-time is approximately three months. This could vary depending on add-on features and demand as we ramp up. We have a team experienced in matching demand and supply plus a supply chain designed for fulfillment scale.

Warranty/Repair

What is the process for warranty issues?

Call us and we will either send you a replacement part if you can install it, or we will arrange for the repair with you.

Purchase

What is the process to order and install a Tune M1?

The order process is outlined on our website in the Product section explaining the Tune M1. In short, a $500 non-refundable deposit starts the process. Once the deposit is received, we will contact you within 24 hours to discuss and finalize your build details and lock an install date on the calendar. Then the countdown begins...

Add-Ons

What is the value of the Mounting Bracket?

Our proprietary, powder-coated aluminum Mounting Bracket attaches to T-Slots next to the Cab Slider and below the bed platform, on either side, so the power is up off the bed floor and stabilized for travel. Electrical wires can be traced back to it in T-Slots.

Add-Ons

What mattress do you provide?

‍We include as stock a 4" foam approximate queen mattress with hypoallergenic, durable cover at a weight of 10 pounds, for a standard horizontal (east-west) sleeping configuration. Some enthusiasts prefer lighter choices. Please only take the mattress if you'll use it, given the landfill footprint of foam.

Product

What truck do you recommend for a Tune M1?

The Tune M1 works great on all supported pickup trucks. That said, something to consider is interior space. The bigger the truck bed, the bigger the living area. Also, the wider the truck bed, the more east-west sleeping room. For example, a Toyota Tacoma has a truck bed width of 72 inches. A Tundra has a truck bed width of 78 inches, 6 inches wider than the Tacoma.

Add-Ons

What trucks does Tune support?

Tune supports most popular brands and sizes. If you don't see your truck on the menu, contact us and we'll talk about it. Except for trucks with curved or sloping truck beds like Gen-1 Honda Ridgelines or Chevy Avalanches, we can likely configure your camper.

Company

When did Tune Outdoor start?

The idea goes back many years, but commitment to it began in 2020. Covid baby.

Company

Where are Tune Campers made?

Tune is designed and assembled in Colorado. Some parts that are not available domestically have been made offshore, but the vast majority (70%) of cost and value added are all created by craftspeople in the US.

Company

Where can I see a Tune Camper?

If you are in CO or passing through, we have a HQ and showroom in Denver and we also work out of Golden. Give us a call to set up an appointment. If you can't make it to us, we'll be attending tradeshows and events across the country. Check our website, our feeds or give us a call.

Add-Ons

Why are you offering this fan?

We tested leading fans and found this fan to shine both in basic performance, reliability and ease of install and usage.

Add-Ons

Why do you want the Aluminum Rear Panel Window?

If you order the Aluminum Sides & Back as part of your build and want to add more light to the camper area and/or use your rear view mirror (w/ Slider Window option) to clearly see through the rear of the vehicle while driving.

Add-Ons

Why should I consider a roof vent?

‍Like a tent, a pop-up camper can get stale and condensation happens in a high humidity environment. Also, if you plan to run a heater or cook inside, a fan is critical for safety. Fans disperse the air and keep it circulating.

Add-Ons

Why vinyl window inserts?

For camping in a cold or wet environment where you want the view but not the elements, these fit the bill. Plus, we designed them to velcro in at the top and tuck in at the bottom, so when even the best vinyl materials yellows over time with UV degradation, simply buy a new set.

Add-Ons

Why would I buy the approximate King-Size Slide Extender?

‍The normal roundabout queen bed space fits two 6' adults horizontally (east-west and snug). For taller people or those who prefer more space, the Slide Extender modifies the sleeping space to support a longer vertical (north-south) layout - it creates an approximate king size sleeping space (mid-size: 72" x 80" and full-size: 80" x 80").

Add-Ons

Why would I choose the Yeti 1500?

‍This is the go-to source for van conversions and other high-power camping uses. If you intend to add a heater and potentially other electric draws or you simply want more power than your lights should need for very dark and long session at one spot in the backcountry, this unit is for you.

Add-Ons

Why would I choose to add the Sherpa 100?

‍If you want to run the lights and charge a phone, this power source provides 6-10 hours of use. The AC costs more but it has more charging options and connects to solar.

Add-Ons

Why would I include vinyl canopy window inserts?

The Tune M1 comes standard with mesh windows to keep bugs out and an internal layer to protect from the elements and provide privacy. If you are in an environment that gets a lot of rain or if you'd just like to keep some heat in while enjoying spectacular views vinyl windows will be a good add on for you. Another benefit of the clear vinyl windows being removable is that you can easily replace a window in the case it gets damaged or ages over time.
