Tara and Megamo met in San Francisco in 2007 through mutual friends. Early on, they discovered a shared desire to explore new places and experience different parts of the country in their sprinter van. Like many others, their lives took a turn in 2020 when the pandemic hit. They decided to leave San Francisco to be closer to family and rented out their home. When their renters asked to extend their stay, Tara and Megamo took the opportunity to hit the road and visit towns that had long been on their bucket list.

Fueled by a love for adventure and a growing bucket list of must-see places, they ended up spending three months in Bend, Oregon in 2020 and 2021. It didn’t take long for them to realize that three months wasn’t enough. Eventually, they sold their home in San Francisco and made the move to Bend full-time.

“Yeah, we’ve got the mountains and the desert,” they said. “And I think it’s a requirement that if you live in Central Oregon, you have to have some kind of poodle mix, multiple bikes, and an adventure vehicle.”

Unfortunately, their sprinter van burned down during the pandemic, so they faced the challenge of finding something new that would still fit their active lifestyle. While initially searching for another van, they stumbled across Tune Outdoor at the 2023 PNW Overland Expo.

“It was awesome,” they said. “Of everything we had been looking at, it felt way more spacious than other things we’d even considered. ”

They especially loved the windows wrapping around the Tune M1, which made the interior feel even more open and connected to the outdoors.

“Instead of feeling like you’re in a closed-in cube, it felt more like you were just outside.”

Another major selling point? The always made and ready queen bed.

“Not having to set a bed up was super appealing,” they said.

Despite their enthusiasm, they hesitated at first since Tune Outdoor was such a new company at the time. But after meeting the team, they decided to take the leap and order a Tune M1 for their Toyota Tacoma.

“The Tune team was awesome, and we decided to just go for it.”

They drove from Bend to Denver in the middle of December to pick up their Tune.

“It was a great adventure then and we’ve been having adventures ever since.”

One of their favorite things about the Tune M1 is that it maintains the comforts they had in their van but in a far more maneuverable and capable vehicle. That upgrade has allowed them to venture deeper into the backcountry and reach more remote spots. Another key factor in their decision was how customizable the Tune M1 is. Tara and Megamo appreciate being able to travel light without needing to haul around extra gear.

Ultimately, it comes down to adventure for Tara and Megamo.

“There’s so much to explore and so many adventures to be had.”

With bucket-list destinations ranging from southern Arizona to the Atlantic, there’s still a lot of miles that these two have to travel. The lightweight design of the Tune M1 makes this possible, and they are so excited to explore all that these destinations have to offer.
